RE: Redwood Area Hospital Foundation Donation -
       Camp Needlepoint
DATE: September 21, 2006

Christopher Diekmann of Belview, MN attended Camp Needlepoint in Hudson, WI this summer with the assistance of a scholarship that he received from the Redwood Area Hospital Foundation.

Camp Needlepoint is a day-camp adventure designed by the American Diabetes Association for children with diabetes ages 5 to 9. The camp gives young people with diabetes a chance to challenge their abilities through everything from swimming and sailing to hiking and horseback riding. The children also get a chance to make friends with other children who have diabetes while learning more about their disease.

Physicians and nurses with a special interest in diabetes supervise the campers round-the clock. Nutrition activities, blood glucose monitoring and injections/medications are also integrated into the camp program. This year at camp, Christopher learned how to mix insulin in the syringe and how to take better care of his low blood sugar.

Christopher enjoyed many different experiences at camp. His favorite activities were playing tennis and swimming in the St. Croix River. Christopher also had two camp counselors that have diabetes. While at Camp Needlepoint, Christopher’s family stayed at a nearby hotel which was also sponsored by the Redwood Area Hospital Foundation.
