Redwood Falls, MN.  The Minnesota Commissioner of Health, Dianne Mandernach, and Assistant Commissioner, Scott Leitz, were guests at the January 3rd meeting of the Medi-Sota Board of Directors, held at the Chippewa County Montevideo Hospital in Montevideo, MN. Other guest speakers included Tim Held and Chris Ballard, Trauma System Coordinator and Designation Coordinator, from the Minnesota Department of Health.

Hospital Administrators and Nursing Administrators from healthcare facilities in the Medi-Sota healthcare consortium were presented information related to the new State Trauma System and the registry for this system, as well as other resources available to hospitals in our state. Other topics discussed with Commissioner Mandernach and Mr. Leitz included Uncompensated Care and Community Benefit, Reporting of Adverse Events, and Management of Infection Control.

Medi-Sota’s membership includes 31 rural healthcare facilities in Minnesota, and 1 healthcare provider in South Dakota. This nonprofit organization is an alliance of rural healthcare organizations working together to strengthen the delivery of healthcare in the Medi-Sota service area. Redwood Area Hospital is a member of this healthcare alliance.

Jim Schulte, hospital administrator, said the group was honored to have the Commissioner of Health meet with them.
