Redwood Falls, MN. The Redwood Area Hospital would like to announce that Sarah Schiller, RT has been appointed as the new Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) for the Radiology Department. Sarah will be responsible for ensuring that all Department of Health regulations pertaining to radiation, radiation safety, radiation producing equipment, and patient and x-ray operator radiation exposures are adhered to.

Sarah will make recommendations or approve corrective actions in the Radiology Department when necessary, identifying radiation safety problems, initiating action and ensuring compliance with regulations. On an annual basis, the radiation safety program will be reviewed to make sure that it is in compliance to the As Low As Reasonably Achievable (ALARA) concepts, as well as quarterly review of occupational exposures, and external radiation exposures of authorized users and workers to determine that their exposures are ALARA.

As the radiation safety officer, Sarah will also keep track of the repeat analysis information and will offer education to staff on positioning techniques to help reduce the amount of repeat films. The goal of the RSO is to reduce exposure to the patients and employees at the Redwood Area Hospital As Low As Reasonably Achievable.
