RE: Alzheimer's Caregivers Meeting
DATE: April 14, 2009

The Redwood Area Hospital Caring Connections program and Redwood County Volunteers are co-sponsoring a series of educational classes related to memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.

Join us for the next education session on Thursday, April 30, 2009 from 6-8:30pm (note: time change). The topic “The Working Caregiver” will be presented by Gail Gilman-Waldner, M. Ed., C.F.C.S & Professor Emeritus, University of Minnesota, Program Development and Coordination, Minnesota River Area on Aging Inc.

Did you know?
• Nearly 60% of people caring for an adult over the age of 50 in the U.S. are working. The majority of those work full-time.
• At least 60% of working caregivers have made some work-related adjustments as a result of their caregiving responsibilities.
• 92% of eldercare in Minnesota is provided by family caregivers

Millions of people juggle the competing demands of working and providing care for an older family member or friend. Most working caregivers want to excel at their jobs and care for their family. But trying to do it all can be emotionally and physically exhausting. Nearly 45 million Americans – 610,000 who are Minnesotans – care for an older or disabled family member. They give an average of 21 hours each week to caregiving.

Fortunately, there are so many resources available to support working caregivers and help them find balance. Join us for a discussion of how you can find the balance as a working caregiver.

This class will be held in the Redwood Area Hospital Education Room (please use the west entrance on Gould Street). In order to provide adequate seating, pre-registration is encouraged but not required. Respite care for your loved one is also available during the education session but you must pre-register.

To pre-register, please contact Lynn Buckley, Redwood Area Hospital Caring Connections Coordinator at 507-637-4508 or Karen Christensen at 507-627-1016.
