RE: RAH Helping to Keep Schools Germ Free
DATE: November 9, 2009
On Friday, November 6, 2009 the Redwood Area Hospital made a
special delivery to the schools in Redwood County. In an effort
to help reduce the spread of infection during the cold and flu
season, the hospital donated a bottle of hand sanitizer to each
classroom in all the local schools.
“All of the schools were very grateful to receive the
sanitizer,” stated Shelly Pauling, Education & Communications
Manager at the Redwood Area Hospital. “Many schools have already
purchased items such as hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes to help
reduce the spread of germs so our donation will help their
efforts to keep kids healthy and in school during the cold and
flu season.”
If used correctly, hand sanitizer will kill the flu virus that
can be transmitted through spreading germs by touching surfaces
that may contain the virus or by our own respiratory secretions
such as coughing and sneezing. When using hand sanitizer, it is
important to rub the sanitizer into your hands until it is
completely dry to kill the germs that may be present. It is also
important to use a sanitizer that has an alcohol content of
greater than 60% to be effective in killing the flu virus. It is
important to use the sanitizer when you have touched surfaces
such as door knobs, desks and other shiny items where the flu
virus can live for up to two days before it is gone.
The hospital donated a total of 275 bottles of sanitizer to
schools in Redwood Falls, Morgan, Franklin, Lamberton, Wabasso, Walnut
Grove, Milroy and Vesta as a part of their Community Benefits
Project.
The Redwood Area Hospital encourages you to keep yourself germ
free during the cold and flu season. Cover your cough, wash your
hands, use paper towels to open doors when you can and use hand
sanitizer as frequently as possible and avoid touching your
eyes, nose and mouth. |
