RE: Julie Fiala Receives Infection Control Certification
DATE: December 1, 2006

The Redwood Area Hospital would like to announce that Julie Fiala, RN, CIC, Infection Control/Employee Health Nurse has recently received her recertification in infection control. Julie was first certified in 1996 and has since recertified in 2001 and now 2006.

The Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology, Inc (BIC) endorses the concept of voluntary, periodic certification for all infection control professionals. The purpose of the certification process is to protect the public by: providing standardized measurement of current basic knowledge needed for persons practicing infection control and prevention; encouraging individual growth and study, promoting professionalism among infection control professionals and formally recognizing infection control professionals who fulfill the requirements for certification and recertification.

All candidates must have practiced infection control for a minimum of two years with a minimum of 800 hours worked prior to examination and must have a current license or registration as a medical technologist, physician or registered nurse.

The certification for infection control is valid for five years from the year of successful examination. Those that pass the examination are able to use the designation of CIC after their names.

The infection control certification examination is the only standardized measurement of the basic knowledge, skills and abilities expected of infection control professionals. Congratulations Julie!
