| Remodeling Project Redwood Area Hospital
has started a remodeling project that will renovate patient room areas and therapy areas - - and
will also upgrade the building mechanical
infrastructure, so as to update the heating, cooling and ventilation systems.
In October 2007, the first phase of patient rooms was completed
on the north end of the second level. It includes two
rooms for labor, delivery, recovery and post-partum care (LDRP).
Remodeling of the second phase of patient rooms on the south end
has begun and should be done by late winter 2008. The
third, and final, phase of patient room remodeling should be
completed during summer 2008.
The expanded and reconfigured therapy suite was opened in
November 2007. It houses physical therapy, occupational
therapy, speech therapy, cardiac rehab and pulmonary rehab.
It boasts private treatment rooms, a large gymnasium and
pediatric therapy room.
In November 2007, a proposal was
also developed to expand
the scope of remodeling to include an expansion and
reconfiguration of the Emergency Department.
As proposed, an addition will be constructed to relocate the
ambulance garage; and emergency department services will be
expanded and reconfigured within the space used for the current
emergency room and ambulance garage. This will allow for a
total of four private treatment rooms and other
improvements.
On December 18, 2007, the Hospital Commission and City Council
approved the proposed plans for a new expanded Emergency Department; and
they authorized advertising for bids.
It is anticipated that work on the new Emergency Department will start mid-February 2008 and be completed during summer
2008.
Redwood Area Hospital is working with the engineering firm of Karges-Faulconbridge, Inc. (KFI), the architectural firm of
Pope Associates, Inc., and the construction management company of Bossardt
Corporation to design the renovation and refine the estimated
costs to complete the proposed work.
